Saint Clair Family Estate Marlborough Pinot Noir 2007

The first thing that I have to say is that we bought one bottle and, after opening it, we had to pour it away as it was bad - slimy and acid. I emailed Saint Clair and they sent a replacement bottle.
The replacement was not affected by the problems of the first bottle and we enjoyed it but it was well short of justifying the price. Montana turn out a Pinot Noir that has more appeal for two thirds of the price. Compared to the Montana, this wine was just down on all aspects - you want some plummy fullness from a P-N? Well this will deliver about 70% of what you expect - so it goes. I'll give them another go for the 2008 but other than that, I'll not be back. Rating 6/10 Value - well below average |
