Santa Illana 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Valle del Maule Chile

If you have tried and enjoyed some of the budget priced wines from Chile's Valle Centrale region, you may like to give this a whirl. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are the starting point for most of the wine from Chile in this price bracket and, in general, 2000 did not seem to produce as good a crop as the 1999. This wine is about average for the year which means that it is certainly drinkable but not at all special. The colour is dark though with a slightly unattractive brown hue but the texture and taste are OK. It is not so heavy as some Cabernet Sauvignons from Chile but still not really a wine to offer friends who are not regular red wine drinkers. There is a slightly acid aftertase but that's about the only fault that I can find. Wine rating 5/10. Value rating 0 |
