Dire Straits: the jpoc reviews
Dire Straits deserve their place in rock's Pantheon. Emerging at a time when punk was grabbing all of the attention, they demonstrated that there was still a market for a band that wrote and sang straightforward blues/rock songs. Their greatest trademark, is of course, the guitar and lyrical style of Mark Knopfler but, despite the changes of line up over the years, they always produce a tight integrated sound.
A great strength of their music and surely a foundation for their success is that their songs do not only appeal the first time that you hear them but also the one hundredth time. Mark Knopfler pursues many interests and this has meant that the band has had an on-off existence almost from day one. Here's hoping that we have not yet heard the last of them. |
