Formula one, 2001 season Belgian Grand Prix at Spa: Business and Politics: the jpoc report

F1 promotor Bernie Ecclestone clearly enjoyed the three week break between the Hockenheim and Hungaroring races because he announced that he wanted more. His master plan, hinted at rather than set in stone would see the season trimmed down to sixteen races and running until the middle of November. That would allow for five or six three week breaks though whether the testing ban imposed in the 2001 summer holiday would be extended to cover those was not mentioned.

In the light of that, the hot topic was of course, which races would be for the chop and which races would be shifted back into the autumn. Bernie probably fancied the idea of adding to Silverstone's woes with a fog bound season finale.
