Formula one, 2001 season Italian Grand Prix at Monza: Engines: the jpoc report

The penultimate piece in the Engine jigsaw fell into place when Minardi announced that they would be using the AMT (Asiatech) engines in place of their 2001 in house development of an old Cosworth customer unit. That left just Prost to announce a deal and it removed the most attractive deal for the French team to obtain decent engines at a low cost.

It was great news for Minardi. Reports put the new Asiatech engine at some 800bhp which was only a little way behind the big three. Even better was the fact that the engine was free.
