Formula one, 2001 season Hungarian Grand Prix at The Hungaroring: Who gets which engine? the jpoc report

We knew that it was coming but it was only over the Hockenheim weekend that Cosworth and Arrows announced a deal for the team to use the Northampton company's engines. As announced, the deal was for 2002 only but the most interesting thing was that the deal gave the team the same engines and on board electronics package as used by Jaguar. Customer engine deals are normally limited to engines up to a year behind the works engines in specifications so it was very good news indeed for Arrows that they would have the same equipment as the works team.

Prost's choice of engines was largely influenced by the fact that they had no money and they had to agree a deal for a second year of Ferrari engines in August. No cash, no deal, no Ferrari engines in 2002.

Minardi were making positive noises about their own engine position. Team boss Paul Stoddart was even making suggestions that his team might be in a position to use Ferrari customer engines if cash strapped Prost were unable to come up with the money to pay for them in 2002.
